Reproducing Piano roll performances

 

 

These CD recordings can only hope to give an impression of the experience of

listening to a genuine Reproducing Piano giving a ‘live’ performance, but at least they

serve to extend the range of opportunities to appreciate this unique form of music.

 

 

The enjoyment level is increased by the fidelity of these recordings which have been produced using a new process that eliminates the shortcomings of normal microphone based recording techniques. The sound you hear is that of a large modern Steinway grand piano, perfectly tuned which may well exceed the acoustic quality of many, if not most, of the original pianos that were fitted with the Ampico reproducing system.  Also the expression is applied by a means which replicates very precisely the characteristics of a perfectly adjusted Ampico expression system, which means you are listening to the equivalent of a meticulously restored original instrument. To cap this off, the renditions are recreated in stereo which adds a further dimension to the realism of the performances.

 

Whether you listen to these recordings as an alternative to playing rolls on your own piano, or as an altogether new experience if you do not own an Ampico reproducer, some advantages to consider are:

 

• You can appreciate the music away from the place you normally listen to your piano e.g. In the car, in a different room of the house or even outdoors.

 

• Listen at a volume level to suit the circumstances, e.g. at a reduced level when other family members do not wish to participate in your musical appreciation session, or as background music while you are dining.

 

• .Each CD plays for approximately an hour allowing you to sit back and enjoy the music for extended periods without the need for changing rolls

 

 

So, to summarise:

 

If you don’t have the privilege of owning an Ampico reproducing piano and would like to taste what they have to offer,

Or you do own one but would like to hear a wider repertoire than you currently have access to,

Or you would like to hear some of your favourites played on a piano with a different sound from the one you normally listen to, these CDs could be for you.

 

The technical quality is very high with no extraneous noises emanating from the reproducing piano mechanisms or any other sounds introduced by the recording process, just the pure sound of the piano
